Maarten J. Chrispeels Named Fellow Of American Association For The Advancement of Science

MAARTEN J. CHRISPEELS, a professor of biology at UCSD and director of the San Diego Center for Molecular Agriculture, has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Election as a Fellow of AAAS is an honor bestowed upon members by their peers. Chrispeels was cited by the AAAS for his “distinguished contributions to the field of plant physiology that have unraveled the mechanisms that regulate protein accumulation in developing seeds.”

Awarded to 348 members this year, these individuals have been elevated to this rank because of their efforts to advance science or applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished. New Fellows will be presented with an official certificate and a gold and blue (representing science and engineering, respectively) rosette pin on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at the Fellows Forum during the 2004 AAAS Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington.

This year’s AAAS Fellows will be announced in the AAAS News & Notes section of the October 31, 2003 issue of the journal Science .
